AMY MONK


Experience

Amy is a recently retired Foreign Service officer with the Department of State.  She served in the following assignments:

  • Management officer in Cyprus, Nigeria, Japan, Spain and Russia, responsible for contracting, personnel management, resource management, planning and logistics.
  • Consular officer in Peru and Vietnam, responsible for immigration and American citizen services.
  • Political officer in Japan, monitoring internal political events.
  • Human Rights officer and Public Diplomacy officer in Washington, D.C.

Before joining the State Department, Amy also worked briefly for the stock brokerage firm, Dean Witter, in advertising and public relations.  

Education

  • McKinleyHigh School graduate
  • University of Hawaii, BA in Journalism and English
  • Worked for KTUH radio station as a news editor, and UH newspaper as city editor. 
  • Attended various State Department consular and management training courses.
  • Attended language training in Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Vietnamese. 

Community

  • President of the American Club in Hanoi, overseeing the management of a recreation facility, including a restaurant and bar, video rental services, and community activities. 
  • Served on a number of committees at various embassies. 
  • Representative of the Foreign Service employee union. 

Personal

Amy resides in Kalama Valley, and is married to David Monk, a retired Foreign Service officer.
